The Power Within You

“Think of the power that’s in the universe – moving the earth, growing the trees. That’s the same power within you, if you’ll only have the courage and the will to use it.” – from Limelight (Movie) by Charlie Chaplin

Winter Solstice

Happy Solstice!

Emerging from the longest night of the year, we begin another journey around the sun. In the days of growing darkness leading to the Winter Solstice, in the Northern Hemisphere, Earth sheds her greenery and all of her energy is focused within - on the roots.

In these darks days, it is appropriate that, like all of Nature, we go within, and reflect on where we have come from. It is time to be grateful for all we have experienced and learned from the past, and to examine what supports life in the present, and what no longer serves us that we can release to the earth to be composted and used as energy to nourish new growth and new ways of being in the season to come. In the darkness, we can also reflect on where we would like to go during our next journey around the sun.

During this season, we come back to our roots to be with family and those who are the mirrors through whom we see ourselves most clearly. Amidst the joy of these reunions, shadows appear, old wounds surface, old emotions stir, old behaviors are triggered, we long for people and times we have loved and lost.

Note the feelings. Where do you feel them in the body? What are they telling us about ourselves? What are the issues in our lives we need to give our attention to? What can we learn about ourselves from the situation/s we find ourselves in? What do we need to heal and let go? Observe and listen closely to the wisdom of your heart. The pain and discomfort is our opportunity to let go of the old. With your next breath out, release what is past into the earth, and with the next breath in, start anew and move into the future.

May our reunions be joyful, our reflections in the darkness enlightening, and our next journey around the sun a dance of abundance, peace, joy, love and light.

Raven Essences: Earth Vibrations in a bottle

Andrea Mathieson creates flower essences - vibrational signatures of flowers imprinted on water, and taken a few drops at a time to bring these vibrations and qualities into the energy body on a cellular level.

I have used and worked with Andrea's essences for several years, and find them to be very potent, in a gentle, subtle way.

Her 2010 New Year Essence is just out, and along with it a slide show with beautiful images and text that goes with the essence.

In this blog, I am sharing links to Andrea's blog on the 2010 New Year Essence, and ordering information below:

Winter

When trees lose their leaves in the winter, they appear to be dead. I grew up in the tropics where the leaves never fall, so each year, I witness this phenomenon in wonderment and fascination, and still, after all these years am captivated by the change of seasons. The even more amazing thing is that it is during the winter that under the earth's surface - the roots are growing, preparing to support the next growth cycle.

During this dark time of year, in the northern hemisphere, days are shorter and nights longer. We get less sunlight. Since there are no leaves on the trees, we get less oxygen, more carbon dioxide. We have a greater tendency to get ill, because due to modern inventions of turning night into day with electricity, we don't get as much sleep as we are supposed to get. Ideally, if we follow our natural tendencies, we would be following the sun's schedule - rising at dawn and going to sleep at dusk like the rest of nature. By not following nature, we lose our balance, compromising the immune system. As our defenses get weaker, there are viruses and bacteria that help us get more rest. As I write this I can see the whole picture of winter, and reflect how far humans have gone from living naturally. The only time I have gone to bed and woken up with the sun is when I am camping outdoors.
